If I had a dollar for every freshly washed stray dog (not wearing a collar), I'd sell pet shampoo for a living.

My biggest pet-related pet peeve is encountering loose dogs when walking my "special" dog. It's usually not such a big deal when walking my more normal, well-adjusted dog (assuming the loose dog is friendly, which it usually is). But my special dog is extremely leash-reactive when approached by other dogs. I wish people would realize that just because their dog is friendly, that does not mean everything will be fine if she approaches another dog. My special (male) dog is great with any female or any small dog. Bring them right in our front door and he will act like he works for them. But if he meets them on a leash, he will act like he wants to eat them. I can't tell you how many dogs I've had to yell at or talk mean to or wave a stick at to prevent them from approaching. I don't want to yell at any dog. Don't make me do it. Keep your dog, my dog, me, and you safe by keeping your dog on leash when beyond the borders of a fenced yard or your home.

This is a big one for me too, Katie. People just open their front doors and let them out.

If I had a dollar for every person who refused to be present for their pet's euthanasia, I would be rich with dollars and white hot rage.

I understand where you are coming from but this is a personal decision and does in no way mean that a person undervalues their pet's worth. Some people like to remember their pet as a a living being and sometimes the euthanasia process can disturb people. I do agree that dumping pets for convenience euthanasias is really sad but let us also remember there are 2 sides to every story. I applaud you for being present for your pets and admire your loyalty to them (I also am one who will always be present for my pets) but not everyone can handle the emotional side effects.

I understand that it's hard for people. But can we not make that ONE moment about our pet's feelings and not our own? When I'm dying, if my husband chose not to be with me because he would prefer to remember me living...I can't even describe how much that would hurt me.

If I had a dollar for every time a person offered up a prayer for a rescue animal, then I could make an actual difference.

Another peeve -- friends who allow their pets to procreate.

I know it is personal choice and depends on your particular pet whether they stay outdoors, but people who leave pets outside in extreme elements and bad storms with rinky-dink "shelter" make me want to steal their pet in the middle of the night and find a better home for it! Especially if you have a GARAGE! I mean, really? My neighbors dog is the saddest dog I have ever seen and it kills me because they are within the law. =(

There are tons of dogs in my neighborhood that you can hear barking CONSTANTLY. 10 pm, 3 am, whatever..they're barking. Take your dogs INSIDE. humans are terrible.

Huge peeve-when visiting friends homes and seeing them treat their pets like they don't even exist. One friend has a small child who yanks & slaps the dog around CONSTANTLY. Sits on his head, unknowingly chokes him, etc. How the dog hasn't snapped yet is beyond me. I am the ONLY person who ever tries to correct the child, at that! Your pet is not a play toy, dipshits. Just one small case of "why do you even HAVE a dog?"

When someone you know is too lazy to get their cat fixed, and this is the SECOND time they've given birth to kittens in a 1 year span, and they actually have the *nerve* to complain about finding homes for them all. YOU ARE AN EMBARRESSMENT.

...a person says "outdoor" dog. There is no such thing. They are companion animals, unless you live outside, neither should they. I usually tell people who want something that lived outside all the time, "plant a tree."

If you have a huge dog that barks very loudly but you leave it outside 75% of the time. And said dog barks at everything so you don't know whether to "go look" or not. My neighbor across the street is a corner lot so their backyard faces my front yard. Call me old fashioned but I want a "huge watch dog" to only bark when there is a problem. However, I have a feeling they are putting the dog outside because they bark all the time.

My pet peeve - when someone asks me if my dog is a boy or girl. You'd think the hot pink collar would be a dead giveaway but it isn't always that simple, I guess.
